What is a pontoon boat?
A pontoon boat is defined by at least two floats arranged side by side, made of plastics or aluminum (rarely steel). A superstructure matching the boat's intended use is mounted on top of these rows of floats. Because of their suboptimal hydrodynamics, pontoon boats can usually only be moved at low speeds, but they are considered stable and rugged. That's why they are mainly used as utility boats (with special superstructures and equipment), as angling and fishing boats, but also as party boats. In principle, floating homes also count as pontoon boats – even though they have their own category.
Who should buy a pontoon boat?
A pontoon boat is exactly the right choice if you
- need to work professionally on or near the water as a tradesperson, technician or similar
- enjoy hosting unusual parties
- or need several pontoon boats at once, for example for a professional catering service
