Elan
The Slovenian Elan shipyard builds yachts that embody a deep understanding of sailing technology and a love of detail, paired with the unmistakable design signature of Rob Humphreys.
Content
Created, not manufactured
Elan insists on this subtle distinction. Elan yachts have always stood for exceptionally high build quality. What ultimately made them well known and popular is the consistently sporty character of the Humphreys design.
Shaped by Humphreys
The Slovenian sporting goods company has been building kayaks and paddle boats since 1949, and sailboats since 1963. Built using a polyester composite technology, these boats attracted a great deal of attention for ten years, above all in the eastern countries of Europe, including Austria, and brought plenty of fun on the water.
From 1980 onwards, the boatyard division within the wide-ranging Elan sporting goods conglomerate focused on cruising yachts. In the mid-1990s, Elan brought in the well-known designer Rob Humphreys, who to this day shapes the model range of Elan yachts in all sizes. Such as the Elan 340 and 344 (European Yacht of the Year in 2007) and the Elan 350 (inspired by the design of the VOR 70 racers of the time, likewise Yacht of the Year in 2011). Since 2019, the yard has been selling a newly revised and equipped "E-Model" line, which has been praised unanimously by the industry.
Humphreys calls this the 60/60 range: the eye of a racing sailor sees mainly the boat's racing potential, while cruisers see those 60% in their own favor.
Holding their value
The Elan range extends from rugged, hard-wearing racing yachts to comfortable (yet fast) long-distance cruising yachts in the "Impressions" series. Elan yachts are considered to hold their value well and are hard to find on the used boat market because they are in such high demand.
