The term sport boat derives from the term pleasure boating. All boats known as a pleasure craft are powered by internal combustion engines. But those boats which have a high performance electric motor or a hybrid engine are considered a sport boat. Therefore "Sport" in this sense doesn't refer to a persons physical activity, but to the speed of the boat. Misleading, in this context, is the notion of a pleasure craft marina. Contrary to what one would expect, a pleasure boat marina can contain both both pleasure crafts and sail boats. Due to the changing leisure behavior of people, pleasure boat usage has now overtaken sail boating. Because a pleasure craft offers more comfort and is quicker to get ready, it is easier to use.
