Below you find some background information, pictures and descriptions and a list of things done recently. With the comparably higher price, this HR34 is also directed at people interested in a HR342 but would consider this slightly older model but with fully updated systems.
*History of the Seller*
My name is Alex, I am from Switzerland and 37 years old. I have owned and refitted a total of 4 boats starting small on a lake and moving on to the Baltic then Northsea, Med, Atlantic, South America, Caribbean and USA.
My latest project was FITZROY a Hallberg Rassy 36 that I refitted in Greece in 2017 including a new teakdeck. I sailed FITZROY for 5 years in the Med, to South America, the Caribbean, Bahamas and sold her in the USA 2022. After a winter in Switzerland I realised that I was not done sailing and bought a HR34 named KINGARA in Sweden spring 2023. I thought I’m gonna do some smaller local sailing in Sweden, an area that I know and love. So I startet a big refit and sailed her in between on the west coast of Sweden, which yet being beautiful, soon got a bit boring (too well known) and I started planing for a summer in the Arctic and another trip around the Atlantic.
While the HR34 sails extremely well (same speed or faster as the 36!) I would appreciate a slightly heavier boat that tracks well and can cary a bit more water and fuel. I’m looking into selling or trading in the HR34 for something bigger.
My position as a seller is honestly not very good as I invested a lot in the HR34 thus driving the price up. But for a suitable buyer who would not be confident of a refit here comes a chance to buy a nicely refitted boat. With years of experience refitting and sailing I only fitted what is really needed and of that only the best products. She is ready to go! And visually in a state that looks and feel like new.
*History of the Boat*
The boat was previously owned by a Swede and kept in winter storage in the Göta Alv. The boat has been used only in Sweden for local sailing. The low engine houers of only 1275 show that he did not use the boat a lot. The equipment was very basic and there was no anchoring equipment installed at all. The interior feels very lightly used the upholstery smelled freshly washed when I got her. The interior is in almost original condition. When I did the refit I managed to update it but used blackbox instruments where possible so it is still very much unchanged in appearance. There are no old screw holes or such.
The exterior and the gelcoat has still a very good appearance. The teak is original form 2020 but compared with Med or UK boats it shows that the boat who was sailed only in Sweden spent much of its life time in winter storage. I trimmed back the caulking on the deck and hand sanded it ever so lightly to get the grains to close. There is one area where something fell from a neighbour’s boat a few years ago and the teak is slightly deformed. Moisture measurements have shown that it is dry and only a visual issue. Sails and rigging seem to be in good condition. The boat spent winter 2023 in storage at Vindön Marin on Orust, where we blasted and redid the underwater with copper coat.
In Summer 2024 I sailed here to the eastcoast of Sweden via Copenhagen and Germany, I installed a full Mastervolt system in Germany including 2x100ah lithium, an alternator charging controller and monitoring. The boat was thoroughly test sailed this summer and all installations are working properly. The boat is easy to handle with small sail areas, in-mast furling mainsail and furlex that run like new. The new autopilot is one size to big and handles the boat beautifully. All electronics and the bow thruster are in very good reach of the helms man. The engine is purring like a cat and the Webasto heater is fully operational.
Updated 2024: I sailed in north eastern Sweden this summer with at times intense fog and the doppler radar was my best friend! The boat has two solar panels (50w each) and can stay at anchor for about 5 days without the need of fresh water or electricity. We did several 3 days nonstop sails and with the autopilot and all necessary instruments running we used the engine for about 30-45 minutes daily to resupply the electricity. The Mastervolt regulator and temperature sensor combined with the low resistance of the Lithium batteries makes using the engine for charging extremely efficient (hence less runtime).
